Far Caves (Arsenyevsky Skete)

Far Caves (Arsenyevsky Skete) is an old cave monastic skete, located in literally 2 km from Svyatogorsk Holy Dormition Monastery towards the village of Bogorodichnoe. If we compare it with the caves of the Svyatogorsk Lavra itself, these caves are much shorter in terms of the length of the underground passage and the number of branches. The length of the main corridor is about 40 meters long and ends with a large room with an altar.

When and most importantly who dug these caves could not be reliably established. In the middle of the 18th century, a monk Abel lived in a cave for some time. A little later, a skete was organized here and several dwellings for monks were built near the entrance, housing up to 30 people. The skete was destroyed after 1920 and was no longer used.
